| Wishing everybody a Happy and Prosperous 2007 History Shantell is a small vineyard and winery situated in a picturesque hillside setting at Dixons Creek, just 60km from the heart of Melbourne. The 16 hectare undeveloped property was purchased in 1980 by Shan and Turid Shanmugam and the first thousand vines planted in spring of 1981. Shan and Turid now have 10 hectares of vineyard planted to the premium grape varieties Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Pinot Noir and Semillon. The Winemakers Shan was born in Malaysia of Indian parents. He studied medicine at Monash University. Turid came to Australia from Norway. She studied physics at Melbourne University and obtained her Doctorate in 1971. In 1993 Shan graduated from the respected Wine Science course at Charles Sturt University. Shan and Turid produce elegant wines of distinction offering finesse and exceptional flavour - generous, rich and creamy Chardonnay; spicy and cherry like Pinot Noir; richly flavoured and classically proportioned Cabernet Sauvignon; superb tight and juicy Semillon and complex, elegant Shiraz.
